General Surgery
Since the leprosy patients have general surgical problems as well and also there are lots of poor and needy patients in villages around Karigiri having surgical problems. General surgical work was started to help the poor patients who cannot afford to go to private / corporate hospitals since 1999. Different General Surgeons worked during the past.

General surgical procedures like Appendicectomy, Haemorrhoidectomy, Fistulectomy, Total Thyroidectomy, Hernioplasty, Herniorrhaphy, Ventral Hernia Repair, Varicose Vein stripping, Laporatomy & Perforation closure, Hemi Thyroidectomy, hemorroidectomy, Simple Mastectomy, Cholicystectomy, Webster’s surgery, Herniotomy, Amputation of penis, Epigastric hernia repair, Umbulical hermia repair, Incisional hernia repair, Orchidectomy.
These procedures were carried out at 20 – 30% of the rate compare to the corporate hospitals with facility for even less / or free poor and needy patients. The average hospital stay is less than a week for many of the major procedures. Antibiotics are judiciously used with good nursing care and the paramedical facilities.
Dr.Vijayakumar Peterson MS (AIIMS), MCh (Pl. surg) joined in this hospital on 19.10.2006 and working till date. He is a General & Plastic Surgeon. He worked in CMC, Vellore, AIIMS, CMC, Ludhiana. He worked in Mission Hospital in Tanzania, and in some mission hospitals in Andhra. He is continuing the work of the General Surgery
