Welcome to Karigiri.
The Schieffelin Institute of Health Research & Training Centre, formerly known as SLRTC Karigiri, has now been in existence for 50 years. It was started as a facility exclusively for patients suffering from the dreaded scourge of leprosy. Today it is 150 bedded General Hospital, offering general medical care, but with a focus on leprosy.
From the Director's Desk
“ Transforming lives especially those affected by leprosy through holistic health and healing in the spirit of Christ”
Strategic planning was the highlight of this year. Strategic Planning for 2009-2013 was done with great enthusiasm and involvement of all the staff ably guided by the Strategic Planning Team. Strategic Planning 2009-2013 identified refocus on leprosy and financial sustainability as the two main thrust areas. It also laid out eleven strategic priorities, which need to be implemented over this five-year period.
Leprosy refocus is in the areas of continuing as a centre of excellence for leprosy service, research and training, developing community based integrated approaches for sustaining leprosy services and forging strong collaboration with Government, WHO and Non-Government Organizations.
Non-leprosy services providing cost-effective, quality services will continue to play their role helping in the mission of the institution especially in integration of leprosy and financial sustainability.
