The Department
- Extends Psychological support to people affected by leprosy to address fear and stigma, to help early detection and reporting, treatment adherence, and improved quality of life.
- Helps with interventions to face consequence of stigma in leprosy and similar conditions such as vitiligo and psoriasis.
- Offers counseling for other stigmatizing diseases like HIV/AIDS.
- Provides Psychiatric services to people with leprosy and others.
Research
The department carries out research on interventions relevant to problems in leprosy.
Taking counseling to the community
The department plans to train grass root level and other health workers in the community on basic counseling skills, in order to provide counseling services in a community-based set up.
The department would be happy to welcome volunteers and elective students to help with counseling and research projects.
