Chaplaincy
The core of the institution is always the loving spirit of the Lord Jesus Christ. The need for a place of worship was keenly felt. Mr. Donald Miller, a former international secretary of the Leprosy Mission, during his visit to SLRS went around and saw several Christian worship centres in south India and left a painting of the proposed chapel that would fit in the Indian culture; thus the present St.Luke’s Chapel came into being. A Chaplaincy Department which began with a Catechist as a small unit now has a resident Chaplain and a pastor. Sunday services, Bible studies and counseling programmes for patients and staff are conducted regularly
St.Luke’s chapel aptly named after the physician disciple of Jesus Christ. The chapel, which is a unique granite structure, is an open place of worship. The architecture and the design of the chapel symbolically depicts the compassion evident in Karigiri .It is open on three sides to receive without barriers those who are stigmatized and rejected by family and community
